Junior Systems Administrator

Location: London

You’ll be empowered to make technology choices and will work with more senior members of the team to set the standards on best practice.

Our Systems team are responsible for system-level monitoring, supporting the latest in VFX software (e.g. Nuke, Maya, etc.), data management, OS configuration, render farm maintenance, and workstation and server configuration, and much more, for a large number of Linux, Windows, and macOS systems. (approx. 200 workstations.)

The Role and Responsibilities:

  • Basic workstation and render farm troubleshooting (hardware and software).
    – You will diagnose and replace hardware components and will learn how to configure and deploy workstations on a large scale.
  • To keep track of work and support requests via a modern ticketing system (TargetProcess).
  • You will have to interact with artists daily, on the phone and in person, so excellent interpersonal skills and having a patient manner is recommended.
    – There will be times that we have a lot of growing requests, so working under pressure and being able to juggle multiple challenges is required of you.
  • Personal Development and learning the ins and outs of a RedHat based Linux distribution, Windows, and macOS, and how we use them at Milk VFX.
  • Some heavy lifting involved.

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in a customer-facing role.
  • Experience with Windows, Linux/Unix, Mac OS.
  • Hands-on hardware experience; builds, upgrades, repair.
  • Basic scripting knowledge (Powershell, Bash, or Python).
  • An interest in the latest computer technology.
  • A recent Computing (or related) qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Self-motivated, flexible & reliable problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail: can follow written procedures.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • The ability to work well in a team.

We have a lively, friendly team and working environment and are welcoming to all. We have regular hours for this role in the Systems department, there will be an implementation of a rota for a late “on-call” shift.
